HELP! MY MICROWAVE NEEDS SPECIAL ATTENTION!!!

Here is an email I received from a customer yesterday. I'll copy and paste it here and respond to it.

Hello Enviropure team;
I booked a one time clean to be done on friday in my 4 bedroom home in kanata.I am a mother of 3 and between being so busy with work and kids..the house cleaning slips away from me.My kitchen is where we spend most of our time " cooking, colouring, playing on the floor etc.."My microwave..has not been cleaned in weeks..maybe even longer than that. I have time to wipe my counters down daily and my stove top and weekly or bi-weekly i clean the kitchen floors..but my MICROWAVE never get's any attention..and i am afraid that i won't be able to get the grime out of it safely and effectively without the use of harsh chemicals.I was just wondering how you would tackle this issue the environmentally friendly way.I am looking forward to my clean house at the end of the week.thank you.
Samantha

Samantha;
Normally, with regular cleaning, the microwave is pretty simple to get clean. We usually just spray it with our green all purpose cleaner and wipe out. For tougher to clean microwaves, we can go about it in 2 ways.

1) We carry a commercial green certified cleaner called "tough job" which is a degreaser made up of citrus oils which loosen the grime and make it easier to wipe out.

2) We really believe in the power of steam! No product needed!! So I think the solution your microwave needs is steam! What we are going to do is take a bowl of water and drop a few drops of lemon or peppermint oil. We carry bottles of essential oils in our caddies so we can use them around the house if need be.
Turning the microwave on high for 5-10 min will steam the inside and loosen all that stuck on stuff!!! Along with the power of steam..the essential oils will provide a nice natural smell and get rid of any stale old food odours.

This is a trick GUARANTEED to work!!!

Let us know what you think!!

HOLIDAY SEASON TRICKS AND TREATS!

The holiday season is approaching and nothing is more comforting than having the smell of xmas in your home...the natural way!

Here are some good ideas for you and your family to enjoy!

NATURAL HOLIDAY SCENTS FOR YOUR HOME

***Pomanders***

Pomander: Traditionally known as a ball of natural ingredients and aromatics used to heal the sick from infections. Today, we use them as decorations or gifts.

Clove: A dried flower bud..used as a spice in most cultures. It also has a cool "nail" shape to it.

Take some fresh oranges and lemons. Using a thick sewing needle..pierce holes in the fruit and stick cloves in all the holes.

Put the oranges and lemons in a decorative dish and sprinkle cinnamon in the bottom of the dish. Add pine cones for extra decoration.

If you want to add a modern touch to your pomanders...place them in a huge glass vase and put them on your dining room table.

*** All natural Soy wax candles with mint/chocolate oils***

This is a great activity to do with the kids during the holiday season~!

Here's how to do it.

About a pound of soy wax ( from your local health food store)
Mint and chocolate essential oils (from your natural health store)
One long cotton wick
Mason jars

1) Heat the wax up in a pan until melted
2) Remove from heat and add both mint and chocolate oils until desired strength
3) Pour the scented wax into the mason jars
4) Insert the wick into the wax and use a clothes pin or tweezers to keep it still and centered until the wax hardens.
5) When the wax is cool, you can cut the wick down to about 1/2 inch.
6) Light your candle and enjoy the AMAZING natural smell!!

Also...with the kids..you can use a hot glue gun and xmas ribbon and decorate your candle jars and give them away as gifts!!!

***Christmas cookies with all natural ingredients!***
This is my holiday PICK!

Simply Sweet Xmas Cookies.

makes about 16 2" cookies
1/2 cup almond butter2 cups almond meal (purchase at any natural food store)
6 tablespoons agave nectar or honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Place the almond butter in a bowl and mix with a fork or mixer to soften. (If you opened the jar and the almond butter had separated, you'll need to mix the oil back together with the butter and then measure.)
3. Add the almond meal, agave or honey, and extracts and mix thoroughly.
4. Place parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet on a baking sheet.
If you want, you can roll this dough between two pieces of parchment paper to 1/4" - 1/2" thick and cut with decorative cookie cutters. Or, you can just put all the dough on the baking sheet, pat it down to about 1/4" - 1/2" thick and then cut squares with a dull table knife.
Either way, take the cut pieces and spread them out across the baking sheet, about 1/2" apart.
5. Bake 10-15 minutes, until golden brown and set. Cookies will crisp as they cool.
6. Allow cookies to cool and store in an airtight container.
7. For crisper, harder cookies, bake them longer at a lower temperature.

VARIATIONS: * Roll out dough and use to make cutout cookies* Add any extract and bits of nuts, citrus peel, dried fruits, coconut, chocolate chips * Top with spices such as cinnamon sugar* Sandwich any plain or flavored cookies together with fruit-sweetened jam, flavored cream cheese, nut butters...* Place dough in parchment paper, roll into a cylinder, then chill and cut as refrigerator cookies. Edges can be rolled in nuts, coconut, etc.

ENJOY!!

SWINE FLU

I wrote a blog last month about the cold and flu season and recommended some simple solutions on how you can reduce the chances of getting the virus by using easy and effective methods at home.

I also...over a month ago in the same blog stated my personal views on getting the flu shot...or in fact taking any vaccine period!

Here we are over a month later and all these things are starting to happen. The public, the mass media and even medical/health practioners are starting to realize what these vaccines are doing to our long term health.

Showerheads and Bacteria

Enviropure home cleaning offers cleaning services to a wide variety of clientele.

We embrace all of our client's needs whether it be the need for a green clean or the requirement of a sanitary clean due to severe allergies or immune system problems.

I want to talk about Shower heads for a minute because recently I have become aware of how important these are to keep clean. Shower heads can harbour microscopic bacteria that can be harmful to your health. How many people think about thoroughly scrubbing their shower heads when they clean their bathrooms??? NOT MANY!!!!

Not a lot of people even think about what might be spraying all over their face every time they take a shower. If you don't clean the nooks and crannies of your shower head, you may be compromising your health. The most common form of bacteria found in your shower head is called Mycobacterium avium, a bacteria linked to pulmonary disease that most often infects people with compromised immune systems but it can also infect healthy people also.

As part of your regular bath and shower cleaning ritual...you should always include the shower head. Enviropure home cleaning regularly makes new changes and upgrades to the cleaning style in order to accommodate all of our client's needs. We NOW include the cleaning of the shower head in your regular bathroom cleaning sessions.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR SHOWER HEADS GREEN CLEAN:

* use a germicidal with a bacteria eating enzyme (rather than a chemical cleaner).

* spray the shower head and scrub with a firm bristle toothbrush.

*Let water run for 60 seconds

* Borax is also an effective cleaning agent and has natural germ killing properties.

* Get rid of your plastic shower heads and replace them with stainless steel ones. Bacteria/microbes tend to attach themselves to plastic more often than metal surfaces.

* Change your shower head every 6 months.

* You can also install special filters for your shower heads.

Thanks for reading...and again thanks for emailing your questions/comments and feedback and please continue to do so because this keeps us on our toes!!

GREEN CLEANING

What is Green Cleaning?

People have different interpretations of what green cleaning means. ENVIROPURE offers cleaning solutions that are healthy for the environment and healthy for the home.

That being said, true green cleaning for us means that we are using products that are free of phosphates, chlorines/bleaches, fragrances and artificial colours. Also, we choose to incorporate all natural alternatives to commercial product such as chalk paste creams, BORAX, real lemon and lime essence in your home.

Taking it one extra step further, we use as much recycled materials as we can. Rags n bags! 100% recycled materials.

So really...that is what GREEN CLEANING means to us.

So when potential clients ask me..."What is Green Cleaning"? This is my answer!!!
Hope that answered your question.
thanks for emailing!

The best way to keep the Flu out of your home this season.

Without getting too controversial, I just wanted to give you my tips on how to protect yourself against the flu this season.
I am not an advocate for the flu shot because I do not believe in injecting my body with deadly chemicals. Working in the health and wellness industry, I have only been exposed to the truth, that these vaccines are not healthy for you and can do you great harm. This is my personal opinion, this is strictly subjective.
Before I move on with this blog, please read this article. There are many...many of them that talk about this, however..I am recommending this one here, which I think will explain my cause for concern.

http://atomicnewsreview.org/2009/08/28/vaccine-creators-refuse-to-take-h1n1-vaccine/

and yet another good one here:

http://www.rense.com/general87/mill.htm

OK, so on that note...There are other preventative measures you can take to protect yourself from viruses and I will list them here:

It's important to know that for the most part the FLU is transmitted through the air. It can also be passed along through saliva and blood etc...
Another important thing to realize is that INFLUENZA can be completely inactivated by proper hygiene, frequent hand washing, soaps and natural disinfectants and the virus itself is resistant to sunlight and other forms of UV-light.
There is really no need to be vaccinated against it, and have harsh, deadly chemicals injected into your body that could cause you bad side effects and other illnesses.
Seriously...think about this for a second.

FREQUENT HAND WASHING METHODS
USING NATURAL DISINFECTANTS IN YOUR HOME
KEEPING YOUR HOME CLEAN, REGULAR CLEANING OF THE WASHROOMS/FIXTURES
REMOVING YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU GET IN THE HOUSE
FREQUENT CLEANING OF DOOR KNOBS/LIGHT SWITCHES

Just always remember that your body's immune system is made to fight off viruses and infections naturally. Your immune system will fight it off without the vaccination. Injecting the actual viruses into your body along with a cocktail of deadly chemicals will actually make your body resistant to fighting off the flu...you just need to do proper research and see what I am trying to say here.
Again...this is only my opinion, and I respect your choices.

I am more than happy to answer any questions and hear your comments on this.

thanks again

Watch where you sleep!!

This blog is so long overdue! I had a very interesting consultation with an incredible lady the other day. We were discussing sensitivities and allergens in the home which then tumbled into a discussion about her bedroom.
Her husband had developed severe reactions every night when going to bed. Wheezing...shortness of breathe, runny eyes...This had been ongoing until they had gone to see a homeopath. This lady's husband tested positive for high levels of formaldehyde in his system. WHAT?!! How could this be?!
Let me answer that for you.
BED SHEETS.
There are so many types of bed sheets that contain this poisonous substance (FORMALDEHYDE). Formaldehyde is a carcinogen, which can cause severe allergic reactions, rashes, asthma attacks and even cancer when exposed to it long enough.

People spend EIGHT hours on average a day in their beds! That is EIGHT hours of exposure to this chemical.
Here's the thing...exposure to formaldehyde is also linked to insomnia. Seriously....this is a real issue here.
Even if you wash your sheets over and over again...this is not going to be much help because this deadly chemical is permanently applied into the fabric during the manufacturing process, so even after washing, the fumes will still be released.

I was researching the whole legal aspect of labelling the sheets as having formaldehyde in them, but, there doesn't seem to be a law that requires them to be labeled as such, which is just scary if you ask me!

You can do your own research on this topic and let me know what you think by email: info@enviropurehome.com

WHAT NOT TO BUY:

Bed sheets labeled as: crease resistant, permanent press, shrink proof, stretch proof, water proof etc..
Almost all Polyester/coton blends contain formaldehyde.

WHAT TO BUY:

Flannel Sheets
Organic Cotten Sheets (any sheet that DOES wrinkle and require you to iron it)
Bamboo Sheets (there are organic, natural and chemical-free!)
Silk Sheets (Try smart silk products)

Antibacterial Soap

I wanted to write this blog because I recently became aware of the dangers of antibacterial soap, and I wanted to pass this information along.
Until Recently, antibacterial soap was an "essential" that I kept in my kitchen and my bathrooms and encouraged my children to use frequently.
I have thrown it all out and replaced it with CHEMICAL FREE soap.

Here's why:

* ANTIBACTERIAL SOAPS ARE LOADED WITH CHEMICALS THAT ARE HARMFUL.

There is no other point I can really make, other than to back up the point I am trying to make.

There is one common ingredient that I found in all the antibacterial soaps in my house. TRICLOSAN.

I have been using SOFT SOAP antibacterial soap and DIAL...but there are many well known brand names that contain this ingredient as well as other toxins.

Triclosan is a TOXIC PESTICIDE that is labelled and marketed as an antibacterial agent, and it is harmful to our kids and harmful to the environment.

All you need to do is research what TRICLOSAN is...and make an informed decision.

When you are buying soap for your children or home..read the labels...If you see the words "antibacterial" "germ killing" "triclosan" then find an ALTERNATIVE.

Here are my suggestions on really good alternatives for pure chemical free soap.

TRY:
Products from this site.
www.soapnuts.ca

OR: go to your local health food store and ask for chemical free pure soap alternatives.

PLEASE REMEMBER:

The whole purpose of "soap" is to get rid of dirt, oil, bacteria etc....
Using a Pure natural Soap without any harmful chemicals will definitely do the same job. Natural soaps will adhere to your skin and remove dirt etc...and be washed down the drain...

Show your kids proper hand washing techniques.

Keep in mind that..."A little bit of dirt never hurt anybody!"

Hard Wood Floor Care Tips from Enviropure

There are a few things about hardwood flooring that you need to be aware of before choosing a product to clean it.
When I do a consultation with a customer, I examine the floors...especially the hardwood, then I ask the customer how they clean their own floors. The most common response I get from a customer is " I rarely wash my floors!" OR "I use Vinegar and water on my hardwood because it's natural."
The most important thing to know is that water is hardwood's worst enemy...water can seep between the boards and you will start to see separation or "lifting".

These are my tips on how to clean your hardwood and the product I recommend for a FABULOUS LOOKING FLOOR!

Vacuum your hardwood regularly along with using a dry microfiber pad to keep dust and dirt off the floor.

Spot clean spills or stains by simply wiping up the mess with a damp cloth.

Use a certified green wood floor cleaner for a healthy looking floor!!

Enviropure uses BONA hard wood floor cleaner in our customers homes. BONA is a non-toxic, High performance enviro-friendly, waterborne cleaner which is known for it's GREEN GUARD CERTIFIED qualities.

We want only the best for our clients and their homes!

Try this product and let me know what you think.

And thank you again for all your emails and feedback!

Cheers!!

Eco-Friendly Backyard

The purpose for this blog is simply to discuss how to turn your backyard into an eco-friendly space for you and your family.
Last weekend I was setting up patio furniture in my yard and took a look around and I said to myself "there has to be a way to make this look better and less cluttered!" So upon starting the "decluttering" of the yard, I came up with some ideas that would make my backyard more spacious and more eco-friendly for my family.

These are all really obvious choices that I made however, I thought I would share these ideas with you seeing as though many of you share your spaces with me.

How to make your pool more enviro-friendly:

Switch from chlorine to salt water if possible. Chlorine is a powerful chemical that is not very enviro-friendly and salt is a natural disinfectant.

If you have a heater for your pool, a great idea would be to get a solar blanket for your pool rather than use the electricity from the heater. A lot of people don't think the solar blankets work as well, however, most people would rather be swimming in cooler water anyways than in luke warm water. The solar blankets are energy efficient and will retain heat from the sun in the pool.

*If you are planning on having a pool built.. concrete pools are more eco-friendly than pools made of steel and latex liners.

Patio Furniture

Ditch the plastic patio furniture and opt for more eco-friendly types like wooden pieces. You can get patio furniture that is made from exotic wood such as Brazilian cherry which is known for being durable and resilient. You can also get really nice outdoor furniture made from recycled steel, however these tend to be more pricey....but worth it.

I recently ditched what I had and replaced my outdoor furniture with nice wood pieces, and honestly...i like the natural look of it...rather than the modern pieces that I had before.

Outdoor lighting

Switch off your patio lights! A great eco-friendly way to light up your backyard at night is by using solar lights. Although they can cost a pretty penny they are excellent for their renewable energy capabilities and they do not produce any harmful pollutants. These lights require no wiring or electricity and you can move them around in your yard.

Lawn Maintenance

If you use any lawn fertilizer make sure you go organic rather than using the harsh and abrasive types.
Avoid chemical pesticides and BELIEVE IT OR NOT "vinegar" is very very useful in killing weeds YES REALLY!! I have done it...so try it!!! Its high acidity levels are effective in killing weeds.

So those are my suggestions for creating and maintaining an eco-friendly yard!
So have fun this summer!!

Smart Silk

A well respected and regular customer of mine told me about this amazing new product that just hit the market called SMART SILK .
Smart silk is a company that makes asthma and allergy certified natural bedding. When my customer told me about this...she said to me "This is a product that a lot of your customers would benefit from". She was absolutely right!!
Enviropure specializes in the reduction of allergens in your home and this product is my recommendation to you if you are an extreme allergy sufferer.
We spend at least 1/3 of our lives in bed...And our beds, mattresses and bedding are breeding grounds for dust mites which are one of the leading causes of allergic reactions in the home.

SMART SILK is scientifically tested and as stated by the company..it is proven to be an effective barrier against dust mites, allergens and pet dander. These are elements that are contributing factors to asthma.

This bedding contains no allergy triggering chemicals, it is resistant against moisture and body heat as well... so if you suffer from hot flashes this would be great!

Now here is the best part about this really cool product.
Not only is it great for asthma and allergy sufferers but if you have any other conditions such as arthritis or fibromyalgia this is the bedding you need. It is comfortable and helps with any circulatory problems you might be experiencing.

This is definitely a product I am recommending to you if you are searching for complete natural and healthy comfort!

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

It is really difficult to get a "commercial" green toilet bowl cleaner.
After a very long search...and after calling many suppliers I have decided to make my own toilet bowl cleaner to use in our customer's homes.
The Green toilet bowl cleaners you would normally find at the grocery store or pharmacy do not contain any true acids that a toilet really needs to get clean.
Enviropure is a "true green company" so in order to uphold this title, I really needed to do my research and find out what ingredients i can use that would leave your toilet bowl sparkling clean!!

OUR NEW HOMEADE TOILET BOWL CLEANER :
Eco Scrub - a creamy chalk paste with a mild abrassive
Vinegar- acids which will neutralize odour.

**Not only will this solution be more effective than a cheap green toilet bowl cleaner but it actually contains no DYES, SOLVENTS, PHOSPHATES OR NITRATES that many known GREEN toilet bowl cleaners do contain.

So there you have it....and this is what you can expect next time we are in your home and cleaning your toilet!!

Thanks for reading :D

Stainless Steel

First of all I just want to thank my customers for emailing me your questions and suggestions! These daily emails are what prompted me to start a blog and offer cleaning tips and solutions as well as answer all your questions.
Very helpful and Very appreciated!!!

So, again, another FAQ is how to clean stainless steel the enviro-friendly way and still get an excellent result.
Stainless Steel is tempermental and often difficult to clean. There are many different grades and surface finishes of stainless steel, and most often than none, customers have no idea what they are getting when they purchase stainless steel appliances. Normally when you buy your appliance, the company you buy it from recommends a product that is supposed to clean it and make it look nice. From experience, these products do not really work and leave either a greasy finish and even sometimes spots.
My suggestions to clean your stainless steel are really simple.

*Routine cleaning with just water and a cloth going along the grain of your stainless steel should do the trick. Drying THOROUGHLY you appliance will help prevent spotting.

*Using a glass cleaner on your appliance can sometimes help clean off fingerprints. There are certain grades of stainless steel which are prone to spotting, staining and fingerprints...I personally find that a touch of vinegar can do the trick without resorting to using a harsh chemical to remove it.

Those are my suggestions and recommendations ENVIROPURE STYLE!!

Homemade Chemical-Free Air Freshner!

This is the ULTIMATE right here...homemade airfreshner!!
Enviropure uses straight pure lime essence as an airfreshner in our customers homes because we obviously do not believe in the use of any chemicals or toxins.
The airfreshner we use is lime juice compressed in a can with air....it contains no aerosol, cfc's or alcohol...it is a natural product...smells AMAZING and is very very fresh!

For those of you at home who are chemically sensitive or eco-conscious here is a really good idea..make your own homemade airfreshner.

Here is how you can do it.

1) Get a spray bottle that has a "mist" nozzle.
2) Choose an essential oil that you like such as lime or vanilla (you can get oils at any health food store)
3) Get some white vinegar. Vinegar neutralizes odours.
4) Put approx 8 ounces of vinegar in your bottle with about 25 drops of your oil. You can add more depending on how strong you want it to be...
5) Shake it up and Spray!!!

*** The vinegar smell will disappear quickly when mixed with the essential oil.

This is a great idea...it really works..its natural and chemical-free and it will leave any room in your home smelling yummy!!!

Let me know how it works!

cheers!!

Glass Shower Doors

Here is my Daily cleaning tip for today. How to get Glass shower doors clean and how to keep them clean!
This is one of the most common questions I get daily in my email. People have a hard time with this one and glass shower doors are a challenge to maintain.

One thing I have to say though, and I say this over and over again to any customer of mine is, when it comes to cleaning tubs, tiles and showers...regular maintenance is the key to keeping it look great.
Again...do not ever resort to using TILEX, CLR or products like that because they are very toxic and the fumes can make you sick (you guys all know this anyways right?!)

Here is my recommendation "Enviropure Style"!!!

1) Spray the entire glass door with your enviro-friendly all purpose and let it sit for 1 minute.
2) Use a sponge with a light abrassive side to it and scrub the entire door and then rinse with warm water.
3) Coat the glass with an enviro-friendly cream cleanser (I suggest Ecover Eco-scrub, love it!) Using the sponge, scrub in circles then rinse thoroughly. Note: Eco creams will leave a white residue if not rinsed off properly, so make sure you rinse the glass very well.
4) Lastly, use a glass cleaner with a soft towel to give the glass a nice shine.

So there you go...that should do it! If done this way, on a regular basis..you should have beautiful, clean glass shower doors!

You can get Ecover Eco-scrub at any health food store. I really recommend this product and I use it for all my customers.

Here is a link so you can see what the product is.

UV-C Light Technology

I get a lot of email from customers interested in the service we offer with uv-c light technology. People are not familiar with what it is or why we use it so I figured I would discuss it and inform you guys about what it is and why we use it in your home.

WHAT IS UVC?
It's a germicidal light that kills bacteria and viruses by destroying microorganisms. Anything that contains DNA will be destroyed by the light.

WHAT DOES IT KILL?
Here are just some of the viruses and bacteria that are found in your home where UV light is effective in getting rid of.
Influenza
Salmonella
Strep
Staph
E.Coli
Fungus
Dustmites

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Based on the research I have put into this before even using it in my customer's homes, here's how it works.
It deactivates the DNA of dustmites and viruses and destroys their ability to multiply and cause disease.
UV light is a natural source so therefore it replaces the harsh chemicals people often use to kill germs and bacteria.

WHY ENVIROPURE USES UV-C LIGHT.
We primarily use uv-light for mattress sanitations because "YOUR BED" is a breeding ground for dustmites and other allergens which can in some cases cause repiratory problems and other illnesses.
Since we clean your home using only the highest quality of cleaners and equipment we offer sanitation with uv-c light as part of a chemical-free way to keep your home a healthier place to live.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
When we bring the light into your home we always ask that you step out of the room when we are using the device just due to the fact that it destroys DNA so therefore it is really bad for your eyes. We always wear protective eye-wear when operating the light and we are trained to use this aparatus very carefully.

I hope this provided some insight and some clarification as to what exactly this tool that we use in your home is.

Teaching your Kids to be Environmentally Friendly at home.

As a mommy of 2 busy boys aged 6 and 2 and half...my house is not always as organized as I would like it to be!
Having Enviropure in my life has really opened my eyes and made me realize the importance of teaching my kids and other families how to maintain a healthy home and make environmentally conscious decisions.
I thought I would share with you some tips on how to teach your kids and family members how to be environmentally friendly at home.

Recycling
Teaching your kids how to recycle at home is important and this can also be a fun activity! This is something they do learn how to do at school, however, making this a regular routine at home is important.
Show your kids how to separate plastic from paper and aluminum into the proper bins and have the bins placed in your garage so they can have easy and safe access to do this on a daily basis. This can be a fun activity for the whole family!

Energy Saving
Teach your kids to turn off taps while brushing their teeth. Have a cup of water that they can use rather than use the running water from the taps.

Make sure your kids turn off the lights whenever they leave a room. Also teach them to turn off the tv and all other electronics when they are not using them. Always explain to your kids the importance of reducing energy use in the home and how it benefits the environment.

Eco-Friendly products
Introducing eco-friendly products and organic clothing to your children is a great way to show them how to be more enviro-friendly. Instead of using conventional soaps, body lotions, and clothing that contains bleach etc... Make a switch for more eco-friendly products that contain no harsh chemicals or toxins.

Try these products. I love them!

Daily Cleaning Tips For May, 2009.

I have been recieving a lot of email lately from customers asking for cleaning tips. Everything from A-Z from all sorts of questions.
So I figured I would start answering people's questions and offer regular cleaning tips.
You guys can continue to email me your questions at info@enviropurehome.com

Here is a question that I have recieved from quite a few people now.

How do I reduce the humidity in my bathroom and the risk of developing a mildew problem in my shower?

Here is my answer. In my professional opinion, everyone should have a proper working ventilation system in their bathroom. Most bathrooms have a vent above the toilet which when turned on draws up the moisture out of the bathroom. If you do not have a working vent in your bathroom or a window that you can keep open during the cooler months then put a fan in your bathroom. After every bath or shower turn it on and keep it running all day. This should help to keep the walls in the bathroom dry and reduce the risk of any mildew problems.

For the shower walls...DO NOT USE TILEX OR ANY OTHER TUB AND TILE PRODUCT because these contain harmful chemicals which are harmful to you and to the environment!!!

This is my recommendation. After every shower wipe down the shower walls..wipe them dry. This will reduce the growth of mildew on your tiles. Yes, I know this is time consuming but being environmentally friendly sometimes requires a little more work, a little more time and a little more elbow grease.

Try it!! Let me know how it works out for you!

Talk to you soon.

GREENWASHING

*GREENWASHING* is a term i have recently become familiar with. Many people have approached me on the issue of green products and whether or not they are in fact truly "green".

Here's the thing...there are so many cleaning products out there being advertised as "green" and they really aren't!!

First let me explain what "greenwashing" means. When companies advertise and sell their products as environmentally friendly, when in fact, it's not true.

So many products are advertised this way and too many consumers are decieved!!

HERE'S HOW TO TELL!!!

1) Check the label!! Too many companies label the product as organic or ntaural but provide no proof, mark or certification.

2) No ingredient list. If the ingredients are not listed on the bottle or package DO NOT BUY IT.

3) Not a certified product. If the product does not have a certification such as a Green Seal logo or Eco label..it most likely is not a True Green Product.

When I first started Enviropure and was doing my research on "green" products, I really had no idea what the differences were and what to look for. My gut was telling me to go with a certified company so that I would not run into any troubles.

We have since the beginning only used GREEN SEAL approved product.

Check out the mark...inform yourself..and go Green today!!

An Interview With Enviropure by EnviroChic

An interview with Tina Mongeon of Enviropure, Ottawa’s # 1 Eco-friendly Cleaning Company.

EnviroChic: Hi Tina, I just adore your environmentally-friendly cleaning business in Ottawa and think you are one smart and savvy business owner. I am so glad to see your business is doing so well.
I’m wondering if you can help me out with some questions on cleaning products? The other day, I received a colourful brochure (from a big box store that I won’t name) with claims to help us (the consumer), have a greener and healthier home using the cleaning products they sell.
They feature disinfecting wipes that come in a fancy recycleable container. The ingredients include N-Alkyl C14, 60%, C16, 30%, C12, 5%, C18, 5% , Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride 0.145% , N-Alkyl C12, 68%, C14, 32% , Dimethyl Ethylbenzyl Ammonium Chloride 0.145% , Other Ingredients 99.710% - what are the other ingredients, I wonder?
The manufacturer says these wipes kill 99.9% of bacteria and disinfects against Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus (Staph), Escherichia coli 0157:H7 (E. Coli), Streptococcus pyogenes. Yikes!
Can you give us your thoughts on using these products? Are they safe for our families? Our homes? Do you use them for your cleaning business or home, or are there safer alternatives?

Enviropure: I think everyone should do their research before deciding to use any green products in their home. A lot of companies claim that their products are “green” but when you read the labels and ingredients in the products they seem to be questionable and rather deceptive. It’s really important that when you are choosing to use green products in your home, that they are in fact certified and carry the green certification label. The only way to make sure that you are using safe products in your home is to carefully read the labels on the products and to “identify” the certification.
Enviropure uses only Green Seal Certified products in our customer’s homes which means that all the products we use have been tested according to science based procedures and have been given the green seal of approval. The whole idea of going “green” is really about making a change in your lifestyle that involves making a better impact on the environment. We combine Green Seal Product along with all natural alternatives in your home in order to make sure that your health and the environment are not being compromised.

EnviroChic: More and more, I am questioning some of the eco-friendly claims out there… I’m seeing many businesses claiming to be part of the “green movement” and I worry about it. Personally, it seems if a business puts the colour green on their products and a few eye-catching eco-friendly key words, they think they will “trick” the most savvy consumer (including myself) into thinking they are doing something great for the environment by purchasing their products. Am I just being paranoid, or do you have the same concerns?

Enviropure: I do have the same concerns. Just because a product has a green label on it and claims to be green, this does NOT mean that it is. Some of these new “green “ products are just as bad as the conventional products. There is a term that I have become familiar with called “greenwashing”. This means that there are companies out there that are trying to advertise and sell their products as “green” by using deceptive facts altering the ingredient list to make it look genuine. This is why, it is very important to read labels and look for the green certification mark on every green product.

EnviroChic: My last two questions concern more of a plug for your business as you absolutely deserve it! In a nutshell, can you please let us know the benefits of having your company come into our homes and clean for us?
Also, Is there any other information/news you’d like to share with us about Enviropure that’s not on your website yet? Plans for the future?

Enviropure: My website actually really explains in detail about who we are, what we offer and what you get with us! We are currently working on new ideas and constantly making changes in order to better serve our clientele. Everyone deserves to come home to a space that is clean, that is healthy and that looks brand new!

EnviroChic: Thanks so much Tina. You are truly inspiring.
